The EU referendum campaign's have been deeply disappointing. Neither campaign has been able to translate a complex issue into something simple and compelling that the UK electorate can engage with and understand. Instead, they have focused on exaggeration, scaremongering, and at some point total lies.
I am 100% in favour of Britain staying in the EU for three clear reasons:
- The EU is our biggest trading partner and they are critical to our economic stability
- I don't believe that leaving the EU will solve the 'immigration issue' for those that have a problem with immigration
- In a globalised world, embracing our neighbours and working more closely together is the way forward. Isolationism and nationalism is not the answer
My prediction is that us Brits will vote to remain in the EU by about 60/40.
The UK is deeply connected by trade to the rest of the EU, which accounts for the largest share of Britain’s total global exports and imports, each amounting to about 30% of British GDP. Brexit would therefore have significant consequences for trade flows not just between the UK and the EU, but also in the rest of the world. What those consequences would be depends upon the terms and timing of new trade agreements.
